Great Scott! It’s October 21st, 2015…not only that this is today’s date but it is also the “magic” date that Doc Brown, portrayed by Christopher Lloyd, in Back to the Future II switched the time space continuum to. According to the writers of the film, they chose this date because it was a day, in theory, that the Chicago Cubs could win the World Series.
In the film, Marty McFly, portrayed by Michael J. Fox, notices while time surfing that the Chicago Cubs finally clinch the World Series in 2015 and purchases a sports almanac, so his younger version of himself can make bets and become rich.
Unfortunately, his nemesis, Biff somehow obtains the almanac and gets rich instead. Flash forward to today, and we’re witnessing the Chicago Cubs being closer than ever to winning the World Series, if they comeback from the 0-3 deficit vs. the New York Metropolitans.
Some of the things that Back to the Future II got right are Ford offering a flux capacitor for the Ford Focus and Fiesta, Pepsi releasing limited-edition bottles of “pepsi perfect” and Mercedes Benz releasing an ad featuring a dog walking robot…the only thing that’s missing is the prediction of the Chicago Cubs winning the 2015 World Series.
