SoFar Sounds is one of my favorite concepts of all time and any live music lover will likely agree with me. Basically, it is a concert service that notifies you of upcoming shows in your given city (they are in hundreds of cities world wide) but keeps the performers and location a secret. Then a day or two before the actual concert they will give you all of the details EXCEPT for who will be playing. They are totally free, with the exception of a donation that you are not required to make and, simply put, a really good time.
The goal of this program is to bring up and coming artists to the audience in an intimate setting. The concerts are often in an apartment or backyard of someone’s house. When I went to the show, all of the audience members sat on the floor as three exceptionally talented musicians played, one after the other, over the course of about two hours. Some of our staff’s favorite artists have done these shows before they got big, from Hozier to Leon Bridges so you never know who may show up at your show, they may end up being one of the biggest touring musicians in the world a year later.
