In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.

We thought that this movie was an exceptionally well done and important film for our time. The realities of then are still very true today when it comes to injustice and discrimination so this film following N.W.A. and their experiences in Cali in the 80’s and 90’s is a great way to shed light on the troubles our society faces. The film was heightened by its excellent casting and it was fun to see Ice Cube’s son play his younger self. The music was obviously fantastic and it was great to see how they transitioned through their years as artists. Their impact on society back then was huge and it seems that this movie has brought back “Straight Outta Compton” since it has been climbing the billboard’s top 40 list as of this morning.
