National Sawdust Grand Opening TONIGHT

I know it’s been a while since I brought it up so I figured I’d remind anyone in the New York City area that tonight is the grand opening of the new artist funded and run project, National Sawdust.  Tonight at 7:30 the doors will open for what they are calling “Discover the Space Vol. 1.”  According to the website, the evening will be comprised of a medley of different performance style ranging from virtuosic piano to opera.  While all of that sounds wonderful what is bringing me in, besides seeing the new place which is supposed to be amazing, is Chris Thile of Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek fame.

Thile takes the stage at the end of the night and will be playing solo.  That’s right just him and the mandolin, for any of those who don’t see why this is cool, this man is a member of the MacArthur Fellowship Program just for his mandolin abilities.  I assume he’ll sing a few original numbers as well as some older classical pieces, who knows the guy can do anything he wants with that instrument.  Either way his performance promises to be awe inspiring and not something to miss.

The Punch Brothers will soon join Thile on the Sawdust stage on Wednesday the 7th, again that is going to be an amazing show.  For more shows info here is the website calendar.  Hope to see a few of you there.
